Public meetings held to discuss County’s budget and tax levy

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MN---- The Saint Louis County Board will be holding two public meetings on their proposed 2020 tax levy and operating budget.

Board officials say the public can provide input and ask board members questions during the meetings.

The County Board set the maximum levy for 2020 at $145.6 million, which would be an increase of a little more than six percent from 2019.

The impact on property owners, however, is expected to be less than three percent. County officials say this is due to the continuing growth in the county's property tax base.

The first meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday night in the lower level conference room at the County Courthouse in Virginia. The second meeting is at 7 p.m. Thursday night on the second floor of the County Courthouse in Duluth.
