UPDATE: Crews have closed down Duluth's Aerial Lift Bridge as they begin deicing operations that they hope will allow the bridge to function again.
According to city officials, the bridge has been stuck in the down position since around 6 a.m. Monday due to heavy ice from this weekend's storm.
The bridge was closed down around 12 p.m. According to our KBJR 6 crew on scene, they are unsure how long the closure will last.
DULUTH, MN-- City officials say the Aerial Lift Bridge will begin deicing at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, during which the bridge will need to close for approximately 15 minutes to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
City officials say the bridge will then reopen to traffic before closing again 15 minutes later. This process will continue until the deicing process has been completed.
The city will provide an update once deicing is complete, and they appreciate the public's patience.
