Training camp tour: Cloquet Lumberjacks

CLOQUET, Minn. – Markus Pokornowski could only look on from the sidelines last October as Cloquet’s hopes of reaching U.S. Bank Stadium for the second consecutive season started to slip away.

An injury held the junior break out back out of the section 7AAAA final game against rival Hermantown, who claimed the trip to Minneapolis with a 14-0 win.

This season, Pokornoski is back for his senior year at 100 percent health. Fellow senior Dalton Bottila has stepped into the role of quarterback of the Lumberjacks ground-and-pound offense.

“We’re really hard working and really fast, I think, and we’re going to be really tough this year. We have guys that fly around and they aren’t scared to hit,” said Pokornowski.

Head coach Tom Lenarz has a reputation for leaning heavily on his group of seniors, which he plans to do once again this season.

“Well, you know it’s hard to tell before you hit someone else, but we feel good about where we’re at. You know, the kids have great energy,” said Lenarz.

“Dalton Bottila is our senior this year. He’s put a ton of work in this summer, and I’m really proud of him and his effort.”

Cloquet starts their road back to the Bank on Friday, August 30 against Two Harbors.
