DULUTH, MN — Duluth area members of the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) have notified Essentia and St. Luke’s hospitals of their intent to hold informational pickets.
Nurses plan to hold the informational pickets at St. Luke’s Hospital and the Essentia St. Mary’s campus from 12 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
According to a press release, their goal is to raise awareness of the “unfair concessions” employers are asking nurses to accept.
Nurses have been bargaining with their respective hospitals for months, and their labor contracts have expired.
MNA nurses say their voices have not been heard on critical issues, including recruiting and retaining enough nurses to fill each shift and care for patients safely, student loan reimbursement, wages, and benefits.
Meanwhile, Essentia management has demanded the elimination of the “MNA Plan C” health insurance and the implementation of a punitive PTO plan.
St. Luke’s negotiators have also proposed a PTO plan and compensation.
