MAPLE, WI – For the first installment of the Friday Night Lights Training Camp Tour, KBJR 6 heads to Wisconsin to visit the Northwestern Tigers.
They finished the 2018 season with an 11-1 record, just one win shy of the WIAA state tournament.
This year, they’re turning over 16 of their 22 starting players. Former star running back Reagan Ruffi has moved on to the University of Minnesota Duluth, putting the spotlight on senior quarterback Jake Brill.
“Well it is going to be different. It’s going to be more diversified,” said head coach Jovin Kroll.
“Our offense will probably run through our quarterback a lot more than it did last year. And we’ve got an array of backs and recievers, and I think we’ll probably put the ball in the air a little more.”
Instead of opening their season against the rival Ashland Oredockers, as they have done for many years, the Tigers open against Heart ‘O North rival Spooner.
“It’s gonna be a little different, yeah. We’re going to have to pick it up right away, instead of having a one game buffer to like see what we’ve gotta fix,” said senior lineman Isaiah Huray.
“We’ve got to hit it right away and gotta just fly around. Start with one of our toughest people, Spooner. First out of the gate game, so lets just take it one game at a time.”
Kickoff between the Tigers and the Rails is on Friday, August 23 at 7:00 p.m.
