ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MN– There are 70 miles of sidewalks, 40 traffic signals and over 1,500 pedestrian curb ramps within the county’s large infrastructure.
The big concern is making sure that all of these facilities are accessible with those who have disabilities.
St. Louis County is working on a plan being developed by the county’s works department, where engineers have created a draft of what the plan would entail, and now they want feedback from the public on it.
Officially known as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan for County Roadway Public Right-of-Way, the plan would include an evaluation of pedestrian facilities within the county that county engineers would conduct. It would also lay out how the County will ensure all of those facilities are accessible to all individuals.
The latest plan will supplement and expand the existing ADA Compliance Certification.
The county’s public works will a public meeting for those who want to view the draft plan, along with meeting with engineering staff members to learn more on the plan and provide comments.
The meeting will be held at the St. Louis County Public Works Office in Virginia on Thursday August 8 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
