“It’s been a passion of mine, I’ve paddled since I was little. My grandma and grandpa owned a resort when we were small,” says Co-Owner of the shop, Holli Busching.

The family shop is on a main stretch of road but has a hidden launch site to get out and go with the flow of the Mississippi River.

Busching says, “Locals, don’t even think about it anymore cause it’s in our backyard, so for tourist, they do come up to see the Mississippi River.”

Holli along with her husband Darrin and son, give guided tours, hoping to make people feel more comfortable exploring some of the great spots Grand Rapids has to offer.

The business provides more than just tours, you can test out the gear and maybe even take it home.

“We sell kayaks and paddleboards and canoes and a lot of accessories,” says Busching.

It’s not just the Mississippi, Grand Rapids has more water than most know what to do with.  “We’ve got 1,007 lakes in just Itasca County. And if you look at a map of around Grand Rapids, like a 10-mile radius, I bet we have 90 different access points that get us on lakes and rivers.”

Hoping by sharing the beauty of the Northwoods, will help preserve it for generations to come. Busching says, “I really think it’s important for us to get kids and family’s out of the waters because that’s how they’re going to stay protected, that’s how they’re going to stay pretty.”
