Victim of fatal hit-and-run crash identified

DULUTH, MN–Duluth Police have identified the man who died in a hit-and-run crash in the city’s Denfeld neighborhood Tuesday night.

Authorities say Peter James Seppanen, 30, of Esko, was driving a motorcycle up 40th Avenue West just below Horseshoe bend when he was hit by a vehicle.

Witnesses told police that it appeared the vehicle crossed over the center line, hit Seppanen, and continued to drive away, down 40th Avenue West.

Witness accounts led police to detain two people. One of those people has been released, the other remains in custody on DWI-related charges.

Authorities have not yet determined who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
