South Ridge punches ticket to state, Panthers win 1st 7A Softball Championship

CLOQUET,MN – A new 7A softball champion was crowned on Thursday. South Ridge faced Cherry at Braun Park.

Panthers defeat Tigers 1-0 to win first ever 7A Championship. Alana Young hit a walk-off single to drive in the run.

“I’ve been, every single night when I go home, I take a couple swings, I swing away and I know that my time is going to come. I was in a really bad hitting streak, I couldn’t get a hold of the ball the entire time, but I knew when I was going up that it was my time, but I just hit the ball, focused on cutting it down like he’s been telling us, and I just hit it.” said Young.

South Ridge’s Malania Madill threw 7 innings and didn’t allow a run.

“I just was trying to pitch strikes, and keep the game under our control. It helps that we have such a great team behind me that I can kind of take it easy I guess. It’s my biggest dream in my softball career, so it means everything to me that we’re going down there.” said Madill.

The first round of the MSHSL state tournament will begin on June 6th.
