Paid voluntary leave for Cloquet police chief

CLOQUET, MN — The Cloquet police chief is on paid voluntary leave.

According to the city administrator Aaron Reeves, Chief Jeff Palmer placed himself on leave.

Reeves was not able to provide details as to why.

Earlier this week a third-party investigation into Chief Palmer was finalized and he was exonerated by Reeves.

Reeves said this has nothing to do with that investigation.

Palmer went on leave on Tuesday, and there is no timeline for his return.

Reeves says Commander Carey Ferrel will be the acting chief in the interim.

Palmer has been the chief since October 2017.
