WisDot announces 2019 construction projects

NORTHWEST, WI — Construction season is right around the corner, and Northwest Wisconsin is gearing up for several projects.

The first project will take place along WIS 27 in Hayward from West Carol Drive to US 63.

This first phase began in late March, and will consist of replacing the asphalt pavement, curb and gutter, sidewalk, sanitary sewer, and water main & storm sewer from the Namekagon River Bridge to USH 63.

The existing 4-lane roadway between the Namekagon River Bridge and Railroad street has been converted to a 5-lane roadway with the addition of a center two-way left turn lane.

Additionally, the existing 4-lane roadway from West Carol Drive to Michigan Avenue will be converted to a 3-lane roadway that includes one lane in each direction with a center two-way left turn lane.

The first phase is scheduled to be completed by June 27, 2019.

The second phase of this project will begin after Labor Day.

Phase two will include realignment of the CTH B intersection with WIS 27 to square it up slightly, installation of traffic signals at CTH B, installation of storm sewer, and replacement of curbs, gutters, and sidewalk.

Another project taking place is the replacements of pavement, culverts, beam guard, signing, and new pavement marking along a 7-mile segment of US 63 between WIS 27 and Larson Road in Sawyer County.

This project also includes the realignment of the Hospital Road intersection to increase intersection sight distance and improve safety.

Construction is scheduled between April and July 2019. Motorists can expect travel delays and a signed detour route.

Monarch Paving Company is the prime contractor for the $4.5 million project.
