SBDC celebrates a successful year

On a day highlighting small businesses in Minnesota one Duluth-based organization has a lot to celebrate.

The Northeastern Minnesota Small Business Development Center celebrated a list of accomplishments during an open forum today.

In 2018 the organization says it assisted more than 8-hundred businesses helped 44 new ones get off the ground and helped create or save 1,111 jobs.

Governor Tim Walz declared March 20th as Small Business Development Centers Day in Minnesota.
SBDC leaders say small business is the lifeblood of the state’s economy.

“Supporting those businesses is very very important–particularly in today’s economy where we have so many people that are purchasing online,” said UMD Center of Economic Development Elaine Hansen. “It is great to purchase online from your local business, too. It doesn’t have to be from the big businesses.”

Officials say more than $16-million dollars were raised for business investment in the region.
