DULUTH,MN – It’s the rematch we’ve all been waiting for. For the third straight year, Hermantown will take on Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin in the Section 7A Championship.
Last season, the Hawks advanced to the State Tournament with a 5-4 overtime victory. If you’ve watched Hermantown’s recent games, you may have noticed that the team has played with a lot of intensity. The team says they know everything is on the line, including their 10th straight section plaque.
“If we play hard and fast, we are hard to handle. If we back off and don’t play like that, then we are just an average team. When we use our speed and our physicality and we own pucks, if someone is going to describe your team ‘playing angry’ and with a ‘chip on their shoulder’, we love that. I think these guys do feel like they have something to prove. Everyone kind of things of us as the favorite, which I get. I know, 9 years in a row, trying to make it a 10th year in a row, I get all of that. But at the same time, when we started this season, we weren’t ranked that high, and there were other teams that ‘it was their year’ and I think these guys are taking that to heart a little bit.” said head coach Patrick Andrews.
The Hawks are 3-0 against the Raiders in the title game. Back in January, Hermantown shut out Greenway 4-nothing. Senior defenseman Sam High says their last meeting was just a sample of what they can expect.
The championship game will start on Wednesday at 7 P.M. at Amsoil Arena.
