Ever since the 2017 Olympics, the Curling Club in Duluth has seen a huge surge in members.
And the excitement only continues to grow this year. In this week’s Get Outdoors Meteorologist Adam Lorch is actually going to be staying indoors to try a new sport.
The Duluth Experience is a tour company in Duluth that’s offering a chance to try a unique sport.
David Grandmaison, Co-Owner of The Duluth Experience, said “The whole idea behind it is to get people out to experience curling. It’s something new. You know, there’s a lot of energy around curling, especially after the 2017 Olympics.”
I’ve never been curling before, but have always wanted to try. This tour is set up for anyone willing to give it a chance.
“We start out the experience at the Duluth curling club with some instruction from veteran instructors. They’re helping us learn how to throw the stones, and a little bit about the rules, and really getting us on the ice to have fun.” said Grandmaison.
One of the coolest parts of the experience is being able to talk to people who really curl, and are very good.
Grandmaison said, “To spend time with the members of the club who have been curling for years and years and years, that really enhances the experience and it enhances the authenticity of what we’re trying to do.”
After a couple hours of curling, it’s time to head to the next stop in the experience… Ursa Minor Brewing for some pizza and beers.
“It’s a great atmosphere, you can sit down and get a pizza and hang out with family and friends instep some really nice beers.” says Grandmaison.
They’re a new brewery to the area, and they also hand make all of their pizzas. This experience is open to everyone in the family too!
Grandmaison explains, “No experience necessary whatsoever, anybody can do this, you don’t have to be 21 to join the experience that you will have to be 21 to have beers at Ursa.”
