The Fond du Lac Band says it has reached an agreement on the replacement of Line 3 through the reservation with Enbridge Energy Partners.
The Band says the need for this agreement was set in June, when the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission approved Enbridge’s applications for permits for Line 3.
The Band says the agreement allows it to be built along Route Segment Alternative 22, through the reservation, with a comprehensive set of safety, environmental, economic and financial benefits to the Band.
The Band says the agreement allows the protection of important wild rice waters, lands and natural resources in the 1854 Ceded Territory, and removal of the old Line 3, replacing it with a safer pipe, and making other needed repairs to other lines.
The Band says with the changes to the pipeline, band members will have access to wildlife and portions of the reservation that have been inaccessible, among other negotiations.
The Band says the right-of-way through the reservation has been extended until 2039.
The financial terms are confidential.
