A woman is recovering at St. Luke’s hospital after allegedly being shot by a Duluth man early Friday morning.
Officials say they were called to the Econolodge Hotel on Haines Road just before 5 a.m. for reports of shots being fired and a woman screaming.
Witnesses told police they saw a man wearing a red sweatshirt shove a woman into a dark colored SUV, and that the vehicle then left the area.
When officers arrived, they found blood on the ground, as well as a shell casing.
A few minutes later, Duluth police received a call regarding a woman being shot on Village View Drive.
Police say when they arrived, they found the victim inside of a vehicle, which matched the description of the SUV which had left the hotel.
The victim described the man who shot her, who matched a the description of a person walking away from the vehicle she was in.
Police then chased the man, who was carrying a backpack, after he took off when officers tried to stop him.
Officers identified him as the shooter after finding blood on the sweatshirt once he was caught.
Police say they then had to search the area for the backpack, which had been disposed of during the foot chase.
Once it was found, police say a handgun was inside.
