Strong wind gusts push sailboat into Aerial Lift Bridge

A sailboat returning to the Duluth harbor Wednesday had an encounter with the Aerial Lift Bridge.

Kevin Bocifous had his smart phone out as the sideways sailboat slammed into the bridge.

The collision caused the sailboat’s mast to snap in half.

It appeared as if the sailboat was about to flip as well, but it remained right-side-up.

The sailboat was out on the lake as part of the Wednesday Night Sailboat Races, which kicked off for the season on Wednesday.

Wind gusts around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday reached 38 miles an hour.

It appears no one was hurt in the incident.
